Dimensions: 18.5 x 27cm. (34.3 x 43.7cm. framed)

Arabic manuscript on paper, 2 lines in bold thuluth within clouds against a blue and gold ground with spiral and palmettes, two lines in black naskh, cropped and mounted as an album page, framed.

Abdallah al-Marvarid (d.1525) served as a vizier in the ministry of correspondence under the Timurid ruler Sultan Husayn Bayqara (r.1649-1506). He was a skilled calligrapher, musician and bibliophile, and the author of a poem titled Khosraw and Shirin.

He was close friends with the famous Timurid statesman, linguist, poet and the greatest representative of Chagatai literature Ali Shir Navai (d. 1501). After the fall of Herat in 1511, Abdallah joined the court of the Safavid ruler Shah Ismail I (r. 1501-24) for whom he wrote a chronical. He passed away in 1525.
